The family of 8-year-old Korbin Williams invited Batman with Heroes 4 Higher to attend their son’s funeral and honor him. Korbin was walking with his friend, Caleb Dillon, when the two young boys were attacked by neighborhood dogs. Caleb was bit in the leg and ran to get help. Korbin did not survive.

Thursday, John Buckland, aka Batman, came from West Virginia to recognize Caleb and honor him for his bravery in the wake of the traumatic event. His goal was to recognize and empower the young boy, who tried to save his friend’s life. “I just felt like I had to be here,” Buckland “Batman,” said.

Batman also attended the funeral held at Orchard Street Baptist Church in Cowpens for Korbin. According to Korbin’s obituary, his favorite superhero was Batman.

Those who know Caleb told News 4 the recent events have not been easy on Caleb. They say it was good to see him smiling again when Batman arrived. “I told him the greatest thing you can do for your friend is to live your life to the fullest,” Buckland “Batman” said.

Friday afternoon, Caleb and his family, as well as a large gathering of supporters, gathered at the South Carolina Welcome Center along I-85 near the North and South Carolina state line. Cherokee County Sheriff Steve Mueller was one of the many in attendance. He presented Caleb with a “Challenge Coin” as well as a plaque for his bravery.

Caleb rode in the Batmobile alongside nearly 100 motorcycle and police escorts to the funeral.

This is the second time Batman with Heroes 4 Higher has come to the Upstate marking a sad occasion. Jacob Hall, was killed last year at Townville Elementary School. Batman attended and spoke at his funeral.
